Pacquiao vs Marquez III

A rematch is sure to take place on Nov. 12 in the event Shane Mosley beats Manny Pacquiao this Saturday night at the MGM Grand.

LAS VEGAS – Promoter Bob Arum said on Thursday that the Pacquiao-Mosley welterweight title fight has “a rematch clause” in place assuming the Filipino suffers an upset loss.

“The rematch has to be done within six months (from May 7),” bared Arum.

The rematch clause only applies to Pacquiao and should he disposes Mosley, he will have no other recourse but to look forward to his next fight, possibly against Mexican archrival Juan Manuel Marquez.

“We’re holding that date and we’re going to bring that fight back here in Las Vegas and we’re looking at Juan Manuel Marquez as the opponent,” said Arum.

Of course, everyone wants a fight between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather to take place. But considering Mayweather’s countless legal troubles, it is remote that he will get to face Pacquiao anytime this year.

Obviously, Marquez is the next best choice since he had two memorable battles with Pacquiao at featherweight (126 lbs) in May 2004 and at super-featherweight (130 lbs) in March 2008.

In the first fight, Pacquiao and Marquez battled to a 12-round split draw, while in the rematch, Pacquiao escaped with a 12-round split decision.

“He (Marquez) is my first choice and I concentrate on him and, if for some reason he is not available, then we’ll look at somebody like Timothy Bradley or some of the younger guys,” added Arum.
